Routines and Systems

The best way to get everything you need to in a 24hr time frame is to have daily routines and systems in place.

If you are having trouble with being more productive throughout the day, week, month and or year. It may be due to you feeling like you are always running out of time.

If you have been on this blog for a while, then you know that I have a system for everything that I can. I also have daily routines this is how I am able to get all the things that I need done in a timely fashion.

Being frugal has a lot to do with time management. The first step to good time management is being as productive as you can be throughout your day.

Not only does having routines and system help with time management but it also helps with simplifying your life. Knowing how to do things that fights your lifestyle and what is the best time to set aside to do these things takes a lot of stress out of your life.

Another great benefit of routines and systems is it removes the question ” what do I have to do today” or “what do I do next?’

Routines and systems also give you a starting point and ending point of your day.

Downside

the downside to having routines and systems is the time that you have to take to make them up and put them into action. It takes time to get used to doing things a different way than what you are used to.

Another downside is the discipline, you have to train yourself to do these things every day (you can’t just plan and then forget about it).

You also have to remember to be fixable as well. Life is always moving and newer and better ways of doing things come up all the time. So, you should change things as you need to.

Routines and systems that are in place while your children are young should change as they get older. If you have a routine or system in place when you don’t have children, you will have to change them once you have children.

Routine

How to start a daily routine

  1. Ask yourself what you need to get done on a day-to-day basis
  2. Ask yourself what you are not getting done throughout your day
  3. Ask yourself how long it takes you to get each task done (From start to finish).
  4. separate the things that need to be done daily from the things that can be done weekly, monthly and every few months to once or twice a year.

Example: every year in my birthday month I make an appointment for my one-year doctor checkup (this is a yearly routine for me).

5. ask yourself what you can prep for the next day or a few days before hand. Like laying out your close for the next day or planning your wardrobe for the week (this is great if you have to wear a uniform for work or kid’s school).

6. You should start with 2 routines for each day, morning and night.

Morning

Your morning routine should have these key eliminates:

  1. breakfast
  2. shower or bath
  3. hygiene
  4. to do list for the day
  5. getting ready for work, school or children off to school
  6. cleaning (if you have the time to clean in the morning)

Night

  1. dinner (cooking)
  2. cleaning
  3. getting ready for the next day
  4. gym or exercise
  5. shower or bath (hygiene)
  6. getting children ready for bed

Systems

When it comes to systems It is my belief to have a system for every part of your life (I know that is a little over kill) this is what helps me because I forget everything, and I am a big procrastinator. If I can put it off, I probably will.

However, if you are new to having systems in your life then you should at least have 6 system to follow.

  1. Laundry
  2. Cleaning
  3. Meal planning
  4. Grocery shopping
  5. Planning or scheduling (ahead of time)
  6. Decluttering or Home organization

Having these 6 systems will improve your life in a major way.

You will be able to get the things that you need done or planed out of the way. You will have the time set aside (that you want to give) to making sure these things are taken care of. These tasks will be done the way that you want them done.

If you have a family, it will make parenting a little easier and give your children stability.

Well, that is all that I have for today, I hope this helps you on your journey.
